Seinfeld--"The Blood"--George combines food and sex

  1. This is actually one of the only episodes of Seinfeld I've seen, and I remember being a young high-schooler thinking how gross it was. However, when I think about it now, it makes sense. Food has become mainstreamed into sex, for example: strawberries, whipped cream and chocolate. There's also a whole school of thought regarding food as foreplay, aka aphrodisiacs, so its not such a far stretch for a gluttonous man to take to bed his favorite meat, especially considering that "meat" is now used interchangeably with the idea of a sexy body.

  2. I think the humor of this episode shows the fact that food and sex have an established relationship in society. Seinfeld humor often uses extreme exaggerations as a base for its comedy, and the fact that this relationship can be recognized is what makes it so funny. This also plays into Jennifer's comment in that youth maybe unaware of this relationship and therefore do not see the humor of the episode.
